Fire proofing mortars are used to protect structures and elements, e.g. steel girders, from high temperatures. Depending on the type of material and its properties, and the application thickness, the material which it is used to coat is protected for a specified period and up to a specified temperature.
The term refractory relates to the quality of a material, and its heat resistance. Refractory materials are mainly used in smelters, for sealing the joints of furnaces, blast furnaces and incinerators.
Tundish denotes the cladding of channels with special mortar in which the further processing of e.g. molten steel will be carried out in the continuous casting process.
